Amnesty International had withdrawn its highest human rights honor from Aung San Suu Kyi, the civilian leader of Myanmar, citing her defense of the military’s deadly crackdown against Rohingya Muslims and growing restrictions on free speech. The international human rights group 'Amnesty International' named Ms Suu Kyi as its 2009 Ambassador of Conscience Award recipient when she was still under house arrest for her opposition to Myanmar's oppressive military junta.

The proposals to change the names of Allahabad to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya are yet to be received by the ministry from the Uttar Pradesh government. Several proposals, including the renaming of West Bengal as 'Bangla', are pending with the central government. Recently, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that the state government was considering renaming Ahmedabad as Karnavati and the name change could be effected before next year's Lok Sabha elections. The name of a state was changed the last time in 2011, when Orissa became Odisha. Bombay was changed to Mumbai in 1995, Madras to Chennai in 1996 and Calcutta to Kolkata in 2001. The central government had approved the renaming of 11 cities of Karnataka, which included renaming Bangalore as Bengaluru, in 2014.

Officials from 4 countries (Quad) - Australia, India, Japan and the United States will hold the third "Quadrilateral" or Quad meeting in Singapore on November 14th. The meeting will be held on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend this meeting, and is expected to focus on infrastructure projects, maritime security cooperation and discuss regional challenges including development.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said to the Delhi High Court that identifying the unidentified body with the biometrics is technically not possible. The UIDAI submitted that matching of biometrics, including fingerprints and iris, is done on an 1:1 basis and Aadhaar number is required for it. This is after a petition filed by social activist Amit Sahni who sought direction to the Centre and the UIDAI to utilise Aadhaar biometrics to identify unidentified bodies.

The Nepal government nominated Nilambar Acharya, the former Law Minister and senior politician, as Ambassador to India. If elected, he will replace Deep Kumar Upadhyay who resigned resigned October last year. Mr.Achayra, a former envoy to Sri Lanka, currently coordinates the Nepal side of the Eminent Persons Group on Nepal-India relations. He is a member of Nepali Congress party. Acharya's name is to be sent to a parliamentary committee for approval, which then will forward it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The government on November 12 submitted the details regarding the pricing and negotiations of the purchase of 36 Rafale jets from France's Dassault for ₹59,000 crore in a sealed cover to the Supreme Court. Dassault has not yet formally conveyed to Centre the role of Reliance Defence as its Indian offset partner. Centre said that till Oct 2019 no offset partner can get any money under agreement from India.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has dropped the May Day from the list of holidays in the State. He said that the government employees do not need a holiday on International Labour Rights Day. He also claimed that his government has done justice by granting holiday on May 1 only to workers in industrial sector as the day is meant for workers and labourers and no one else. Earlier the list of restricted holidays included 12 festivals and occasions in it, the New Year’s Day, Pous Parban (Bengali harvest festival), Basanti Puja, Mahavir Jayanti, May Day, Rath Yatra, Jhulanjatra Samapan, Biswakarma Puja, Akheri-Chahar-Sumba, Bhratridwitiya, Guru Nanak’s birthday and the World Disabled Day.

Despite the growing demand for liquidity support for Non-banking Finance Companies (NBFC), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) does not favour to provide any special support to the sector. But it will continue to provide funds to the banking system as liquidity deficit in the system is a concern. The RBI says that bigger NBFCs are not facing any liquidity issues. The middle and smaller NBFCs, mostly housing finance firms, are the ones who face some issues. The liquidity issue for NBFCs has been a bone of contention between the central bank and the Finance Ministry. The Centre has cited the never-used provision under section 7 of the RBI Act to initiate consultations with RBI. Under this section, the government can issue directions to RBI. All eyes are now on the RBI’s board meeting scheduled for November 19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country's first Multi-Modal Terminal on Ganga River in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. It was the first of the four multi-modal terminals being constructed on the National Waterway-1 (river Ganga) as part of the World Bank-aided Jal Marg Vikas project of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 5,369.18 crore, which will be equally shared between the Government of India and the World Bank. The Jal Marg Vikas project involves construction of three multi-modal terminals - at Varanasi, Sahibganj and Haldia, two inter-modal terminals and five roll-on-roll-off or Ro-Ro terminal pairs. The IWAI vessel, MV Rabindranath Tagore that PM Modi received in Varanasi was the first container movement on an inland waterway in India since Independence. The vessel transported 16 containers equivalent to 16 truckloads of food and snacks from Kolkata to Varanasi.

Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT), a leading off-highway tire manufacturers, is planning to invest $100 million to set up its new production unit in the United States. This unit will be its first manufacturing site outside of India. The yearly production from the tire manufacturing plant is expected to produce around 20,000 MT in the entire Off Highway tire segment. Currently, Europe is BKT’s largest sales market accounting for more than half of its overall turnover.

Bangladesh's ODI captain Mashrafe Mortaza will contest in the upcoming elections on a ticket from the ruling party, Awami League, as confirmed by PM Sheikh Hasina. He could reportedly contest from his hometown district of Narail in south-western Bangladesh. Mashrafe is widely expected to retire after the World Cup in 2019. He has already retired from Twenty20 international cricket and has not played a Test match since 2009.

A report says, by 2022, India is expected to have a fourth of the world’s air conditioning units. This could immensely affect the climate change and increase the risk rate. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) are a family of gases that are largely used in refrigerants at home and in car air-conditioners. This greenhouse gas substantially worsen global warming. India, China, the United States and Europe have committed themselves to reducing the use of HFC by 85% by 2045. An estimation says, that about 4.5 billion room air-conditioners are to be installed by 2050, under a business growth trajectory.

Hyundai, the South Korean automotive manufacturer, is to invest Rs.7,000 crore to expand its facility at Sriperumbudur, Chennai. Hyundai Motor India Limited CEO and MD Y.K. Koo said that the investment will also go towards the manufacture of new models and electric vehicles. Hyundai is to sign an MoU with the Global Investors Meet and it has been scheduled for January. A delegation, led by Mr. Koo, called on Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the Secretariat over increase in production to another 1,00,000 units and requested the government to provide incentives.

A team of researchers conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley and three other U.S. universities, the research studies the current status of mobility in urban India, using Google maps. In another index of traffic speed, Kolkata has been found to be the slowest city.
